I just picked up this NOS Seiko 5 7009-4001 off eBay. The auction ended at 3:22 AM EST so I think that was one of my advantages to winning. This one is dated 1987. At first I was not too crazy about it because of the pictures, but I searched for other pictures and came upon this one from Wai’s Watch Musium on flickr:
There isn’t much information out there on this particular model. I do know that has become very hard to find a NOS 7009, which is why I did not hesitate to bid on this. It was one of the most produced Japanese movements. In the late 80’s, the 7009 was replaced with the 7S26 which has some plastic parts. One neat feature is the date quick set. To set the date, you pull the crown out to the first position. To set the day, you push the crown in. Saturday is shown in a bright blue while Sunday is red.
I can’t wait to get this in and take some pictures. I also need to find a nice leather band for it.
